Black Friday is known to be the day following Thanksgiving Day in America, traditionally kicking off the Christmas shopping season with massive retail sales. Retailers would usually open stores at 6 a.m. but last year people started shopping at midnight and this year they opened extremely early, at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.
Retailers simply want to open as soon as possible to maximize the number of customers and their profit. Facebook gives them a chance to get the special offers out even earlier and because they need to spread the word to get the biggest possible amount of people into their shops, we looked at the most Shared posts from the retail industry. Many retailers have been posting coupons or giveaways on their page. Target started warming up it’s by giving away twenty-five 25 dollar gift cards every day. They helped a lot with fan traffic since Target made it necessary for fans to apply via the Facebook page.
On November 12th, Target posted a photo encouraging fans to check out their Black Friday ad “full of DEALicious goodness”. Over 5 thousand people said “it´s on” and Shared the link with their friends curious about the best offers.
Macy´s hasn’t been posting many special coupons or giveaways because they had a Thanksgiving parade to organize. Especially this Hello Kitty photo generated many Shares and Facebook buzz.
Toys “R” Us, the leading American kids store for toys, hasn’t been wasting time and posted a 20% off Facebook offer to keep customers coming.
Walmart is already getting for the holidays but the retailer also posted guaranteed in-stock items, rollback prices and bonus gift cards with certain purchases leading to Black Friday.
